Let's have fruit

Colossians 1:6 says
..which has come to you, as it (the gospel) has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth

And verse 10 says
...that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

So, today I was studying Colossians and these verses jumped out to me.  Col 1:6 says that the gospel is bringing forth fruit and that they (the Colossians) were to be fruitful.

The way that they were instructed to walk worthy of the Lord and to be fruitful was this (verse 9)
"For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;"

When we are filled with the knowledge of God's will with wisdom and spiritual understanding, we will be able to walk worthy of the Lord. Walking worthy is not about modifying our behaviour or doing something.  It is about realizing and acknowledging what Jesus has done for us and given us.   When we begin to be filled with the knowledge of his will, then we can do all sorts of things!  We can pray in faith and see the miraculous; we can walk through difficult times, resisting the devil and watching him flee from is; we can walk in divine health and prosperity and be a blessing to every good work.

It is not in what we do, but in what we know that we will begin to produce fruit.  It is knowing the gospel that brings fruit. Why? Because when we know the good news of all that Jesus has purchased and provided for us, this will begin to take root in our hearts like a seed and produce fruit.

If you're not producing spiritual fruit in your life, I would say it's down to what you really know, and what you really know comes down to what you have read in the Word and what you have rooted and grounded in your heart.  It's an easy fix;  get in the word, read it and meditate on it and it will produce fruit.

Happy Saturday.
