Do you need a wash?

This week I began re-reading Psalm 119, but in the Passion Translation.  I absolutely love it.  It was so beautiful. The whole chapter is about the word.  In the King James Version, it uses the words 'precepts', 'word', 'commands' 'judgements' and 'testimonies' but they all referring to God's word to us. This is the first verse that really struck me: Psalms 119:25 Lord, I’m fading away. I’m discouraged and lying in the dust; revive me by your word, just like you promised you would. You know over lockdown, it's been hard some days to feel enthusiastic, but this encourages us, that God revives us through his word!   I know I bang on about it a lot, but we NEED the word.  We need it every single day, we need it more than anything else in the world.    The author says that following God's word is better than chasing after all the wealth of the world!  Do we feel like that, or do we see it as a chore to be ticked off each morning or someth

Promise Note

Have you ever considered the value of a promise?   A promise is defined in the dictionary as:  "A declaration or assurance that one will do something or that a particular thing will happen. "   We talk about Promise Notes, where if I owe you money, you hold a note hat says I promise to pay you what I owe.  There is an expectation that, if you present that note to me I will have to pay what I owe.  God's word is like that.  It is the promise note from God.  It lays out God's promises to us, and they are always YES and AMEN!  If God has promised you something, you can take it to the bank as they say!  He is faithful to his word and his promises are a sure thing. The trouble for most people is that they haven't taken time to read the Promise Note.  They don't know what God has offered them, and so they live life without benefiting from the goodness of God in full. So my challenge today is what promises are you standing on in God's word?  Why not comment and l

Fresh Water

Have you ever felt 'dry', like there's nothing in you to 'give'.  I think all Christians have felt that way at some point in their lives.   God' never leaves us or forsakes us, so what causes us to feel as if we are running on empty? While the water never runs dry from God's point of view, the truth is, we are not meant to be filled once and that's it, done.  Just as God's mercies are new every morning, so each day we need to go to the word for revelation and encouragement for the new day ahead. We don't usually get up Monday morning, have a good breakfast and then not eat for the rest of the week.  Our bodies aren't designed that way.    The same is true for the Spiritual man/woman.  The living word of God is not a read-it-once kind of book.  It's a 'read it, meditate on it, read it again, study it, discuss it, read it again, pray about it, live it, read it again' and so on kind of book! If you are feeling 'dry' it may be

For Better or Worse

I have been studying the Book of Hebrews over the last few months.  We've been live-streaming a series on it with our church and one major thing has really hit me this time of reading and studying it.  It's the word BETTER!   The word better means: more desirable, satisfactory, or effective. more excellently or effectively. improve on or surpass (an existing or previous level or achievement The bible refers to the old covenant as beggarly, but Hebrews continually calls the new covenant better. We are, by nature, creatures of habit,  and it seems to me that we are consistently moving back to to the old covenant, and the result is a hybrid system that doesn't work. No longer can we please God by our actions, no longer do we need to relate to God through a set of rules and regulations, and no longer do we get what we deserve based on our own effort.  In the new covenant, it is faith that pleases God.  In the new covenant, it is all based on the finished work of one man, Jesus
