News-worthy

Really as believers we need to get a hold of the truth that we are in this world but we're not of it; we've been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light.  We need to be remember that we are different. 

All around me this week it's all fear and frantic behaviour! 

One of my favourite verses speaks of being kept in perfect peace when we keep our mind stayed on Jesus.

Are you worried about the Coronavirus?  Are you fearful about the stuff in the news?  Are you a believer! Then spend your energy on getting your mind stayed on Jesus your Lord and saviour!!

Even in the Old Testament we read (Deut 31:8):

"It is the Lord who goes before you; He will be with you.  He will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be dismayed" (dismayed:  confounded, discouraged, broken down etc).

There is nothing new under the sun and God is unchangeable!   He goes before us and is with us!!  We need to put our money where our mouth is so to speak. 

I am reminded of the stories of those amazing saints who were slaughtered in the arena with the lions, many of them singing songs of praise to God as they went to their death!   Really, it puts us to shame with our moaning and complaining!

We are the people of God!  Psalms 18:2-3 (KJV Strong's) reminds us "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised..."

Let us be found with a song of praise on our lips this week, because this is the news-worthy truth, God is the answer, whatever the news has to offer!

Teabags and Popcorn!

So, I was eating popcorn yesterday and drinking a fruit tea and I started wondering what makes a popcorn pop! (As you do). With a little help from Google, I found out that inside the kernel, the hard shell, there is a little bit of moisture and when it heats up inside, it turns to steam and as you keep heating it up, the pressure from the steam builds and builds until it cracks open the hard exterior and makes a yummy snack. And then I thought about my teabag (I do promise there will be a spiritual application to this, not just information on my food and drink habits).  The label had come off the teabag, so I didn't know exactly what flavour it was, until I poured on the boiling water and tasted it! This week I have been thinking about the 10 spies that they sent out to view the promised land.  You probably don't remember the names of 8 of them!   The other two were of course Joshua and Caleb.    In the book of Numbers we see that Moses sent out these 10 men off to spy out the land that God had promised them.  They were to check it out and see what kind of place it was, what kind of people lived there and bring back some produce from the land. Well, if you know the story they brought back some figs, pomegranates and a bunch of grapes so big it had to be carried between two men!   It was a good land (no surprise there, seeing as God had told them it was good).  But when they got back 8 of the spies told the people "Well, it's a good land, but the people that live there included giants and all sorts of people that are really strong' I can imagine that all Israel gasped in horror or shock. See for yourself!

The New Year is often a point in time where we consider new beginnings. We make new year's resolutions and wipe the slate clean and start over, and while goal-setting and change isn't bad, in spiritual terms, will-power alone isn't enough to effect change.   Real and lasting change begins on the inside of us. It begins with seeing on the inside with the eyes of faith before we ever see something with our natural eyes on the outside.  What do I mean by that?  Well, think about Joseph.   Joseph had a dream that he would one day see his family bowing before him.  He had to walk through rejection from his family, slavery, false accusations and prison before he saw that with his physical eyes!  He had a dream and I believe he held on to that dream every single day. If Joseph had seen himself to be helpless, forsaken and lost he would have had the opportunity to fall into despair and do nothing.  The chances are, that would have kept him a slave or a prisoner until he died.  What
