This and that

Have you ever thought about the fact you can accept God's Word in same areas while struggling to receive it in others?

I heard these verse recently from Genesis 15:5-8 . Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”  And he said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”

I thought that was really interesting.    God tells Abraham he's going to make him a Father of many nations.  He's going to make his decedents SO numerous, they'll be like the stars of the sky!    It is then said of Abraham that he believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness.

In the very next bit, the Lord tells Abraham not only that, but he's going to give him a land to inhabit...  Abraham's response is "Ok how will I know I'll get the land!!".  It seems that he had no trouble believing he was going to have multitude of heirs, but when God told him he'd give him land, he struggled.

In the natural he had no chance to be a father any more than he could possess the land, but something in Abraham's heart couldn't see this second promise as being possible. I wonder if the visual of image of the stars in the sky, gave him faith to accept if God could make the stars, he could certainly give him children, but when it came to possessing the land, he couldn't see it! He had nothing to liken it to, and so he just couldn't make sense of it.  Maybe it was because someone else was already in possession of the land.   Whatever it was, our man of faith needed something more.

What are you comfortable believing God for?  What do you struggle with?  It is the same God that promises the nations, and the land.

Many times we see people that trust God for salvation, but struggle to believe he will provide for them in other ways.

I encourage you, encourage yourself with what you know he is going to do, and has done.  Remind yourself over and over what good things he has done, and what you absolutely know he is going to do!  Then remind yourself that he is the same yesterday, today and forever.  It is the same God!   Stir yourself up in this way, so that whatever he speaks to you, you will know he is able to do it!

Blessings
