Keep an eye on the horizon!

Well! Here we are at the end of the year.  My last blog of 2018.

It seems like life has been a whirlwind over the last 12 months. We've taken mission trips, ministered to over 100 students, preached in multiple churches in various cities, provinces and countries; we've been on the radio, worked with kids, led worship, moved home and country, changed jobs, bought a new car...

Our changes have been good for us.  God has been gracious and some of the things coming up in 2019 are going to be quite different, but so exciting!  For others change can cause them to feel little lost or discouraged and wonder what God has next for them.

Sometimes, change is of our own making and sometimes it is beyond our control.  The hard thing for us is our emotions can go all over the place, our faith can waiver or our hearts can get all bent out of shape.

Growing up by the beach, my dad owned a small boat.   I LOVE being out on the water, and I've never, ever been sea sick.  When you get sea-sick, they say go up on the deck and fix your eyes on the horizon.  This helps.  It gives you something to focus on that's fixed.

As we go into the new year, whether you are static, or the middle of change.  Whatever you are expecting (or not) from 2019, there is one constant, fixed point that will never, ever falter.  That is God! Not only will he not change (Mal 3:6), but in James 1:17 . it says "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

God isn't changing or fluctuating.  He is fixed, solid and consistent.  He is faithful and his promises are yes and amen!

As I sign off for this year, I challenge you with this thought:  don't look at the changing scenes around you, good or bad, and try and figure it all out.   Instead look at Jesus.  He is fixed.  You can look at the scenery to enjoy it, in light of being anchored in him, but always bring your eyes back to the 'horizon' that is Christ.

May 2019 be a year of finding out more of who you are in Christ and revelation of what that means!

Happy New Year!
