Fight like a girl
It is clear from the Bible, we are in a battle: the kingdom of darkness v the Kingdom of Light. 1 Timothy 6:12 tells us that we are to fight the good fight of faith and Paul uses armour as an analogy, and there are many other uses of the concept of being in a fight, but sometimes we don't correctly identify the way to win the battles we face.
Firstly, it's important to remember that actually the battle is already won and we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) so we never fight from a perspective of trying to win or even take back ground!
That may surprise some of you. We used to sing a song "Went to the enemy camp and I took back what he stole from me"... It's a really up beat song, but as I think about it now, I don't think that the devil is stealing from me in the way I used to.
Scripture tells us that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy for sure, but what does he steal? Well, Mark 4 says
The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
Satan cannot steal ground from us, he can only make us believe that is what he has done as he attacks the very word God has give us. He makes us feel as though we are lacking something and that we need to get 'it' back, whatever the illusive 'it' is.
Do you know why there is no teaching from Paul about how to take back what has been stolen? Because Jesus already sorted it all out. Everything the devil stole, he took in the Garden of Eden. Everything he took Jesus restored at Calvary. Now we don't have to fight any battle but that which is in our own minds. That is the weaponry Satan uses. Our thoughts - to doubt the goodness and power of God! The battle is right between your ears.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 is clear that our battles aren't fought with physical weapons, or even against physical people, but is all to do with the battle ground which is our minds!
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,"
All of those things are to do with our minds and our thoughts. Satan doesn't have power over us, other that what we allow, and that comes from what we think and believe!
So what does it look like to me to 'fight like a girl'? Now of course, these are generalisations, but you get the point...in general these are true -
Girls are strong - we may not be as physically strong as our male counterpart, but internally woman are strong. We ladies can take a lot of things and survive them and come out scarred but not broken.
Women are tenacious. We don't quit! We push on we hold to hope and we are not letting go easily. This is especially important when we are talking about fighting the fight of faith and not letting go
Spiritually, we need to use both these characteristics strength and tenacity in Christ and fight to keep our thoughts right (in line with God's word) and declare his truth over us. Whatever you think the devil has stolen, he is a liar. Jesus himself told you the came to give you life, and an abundant kind of life at that. God's word tells us that EVERYTHING that pertains to life and godliness and that we are complete in him! ( 2 Peter 1:3 & Col 2:10) Our fight is to believe what Jesus said!
Let us be strong in his might and keep holding onto his truth and we will win
So the next time someone says "You fight like a girl" say "I absolutely do!"
