Been there, done that
Have you ever been confronted with a new situation? Of course you have. On a regular basis we encounter things that we've never seen or done before. That is also true in the Spiritual realm. Someone asks for prayer for something, and our first reaction is "I've never prayed for that before...".
The good news is, that the bible says that there is nothing new under the sun and the Holy Spirit has been around since the beginning of time. He has seen every kind of miracle imaginable. Even in the Old Testament we see accounts of raising the dead (1 Kings 17:17-24), God's supernatural protection (Daniel 3:19-27- Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) and healings (Numbers 21:5-9 - The poisonous snake bites healed) and these are just a few examples. The Holy Spirit was the one who was hovering before the very creation of the World. He was the one that came and went and facilitated these miraculous events. Now we are blessed that he lives within us! He doesn't go and that's awesome!
What are these 'living waters'?
Well, the symbolism reminds us that life with the Spirit will flourish. Plants and flowers grow near water as it supplies a need and causes them to grow and bloom.
It reminds us that Jesus is the source. Just as a river starts from somewhere, so it is with us. The Holy Spirit lives on the inside of us and as we remember who it is that we carry around with us, we can act like Jesus did, pouring out this living water.
And to me, RIVERS of LIVING WATER are not a little trickle or the odd drip! It is a powerful flow of life that rises up from the life of God within us and impacts every encounter we have to bring God's power and love to all we meet.
When we face new situations, instead of looking at the natural, there's a reason we bow our heads to pray; We take a look down at our belly and remember that the Holy Spirit lives inside of us! (Some of us look like we've got more of him than others 😊). The Holy Spirit is the one who is going to perform the miracles through us! That's exciting.
Next time you encounter a new thing you've never done before remember that you are fully empowered by the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus was! So smile, and say Holy Spirit, you've done this before, so we've got this!"
